I am Archie Burns a prospective candidate for Portobello / Craigmillar Ward

I have lived in Portobello for 24 years and my family and I appreciate the opportunities this community provides and enjoy participating. I feel very strongly that any form of building development on the park will be to the detriment of the community now and in the future. I believe there is a strong community feeling for retaining Portobello Park as a large open green space. As a member of Portobello High School Board I have campaigned for a replacement for the ageing building and know that a new school can built on the existing site. I am standing for election to allow supporters of the Park to make their views known and to keep Portobello’s open spaces.

I moved to Edinburgh 10 years ago and have made my home in Portobello. I’m a 33 year old chartered architect who works in the Planning industry, specialising in urban design and regeneration.

I believe Edinburgh is a true 21st century city, and I want to keep it that way. A city that is rightfully proud of its World Heritage status. A leader in environmental policy. And a city that should not shy away from the right sort of development, securing first class facilities for all, now and in the future.

Providing facilities should never mean giving up our natural resources.

Physical and mental health is a cornerstone of a healthy society. Experts around the world have proved the links between access to green space, and healthy bodies and minds. We should not make decisions purely based on cost.

Some may say I rate green space over good facilities. But that’s not true.

I want both, I believe we can have both, and I think the people deserve both. We should never be made to choose. So if you want someone to fight for our green space AND protect our facilities – vote for me!

The Legal advice available is that Portobello Park is Common Good Land

The community is strongly against HOUSING
so the outgoing Council have taken it off the agenda for NOW

The proposed closure of MEADOWBANK means that the park will become a target for some of the lost facilities

We have been misled - there is no replacement local green space

The council do not own land at Brunstane for a new golf course

Plans exists which show that a school for 1,400 pupil can be built on the current PHS site
